TAYLOR Peter
British economist and academicProfessor of Sport Economics and Co-Director of the
Sport Industry Research Centre, Sheffield Hallam University
Career: Peter Taylor is Professor of Sport Economics and Co-Director of
the Sport Industry Research Centre at Sheffield Hallam University. He is a
lecturer, researcher and consultant on the economics of sport and leisure
markets and organisations. He is a Companion of the Institute of Sport and
Recreation Management in recognition of research contributions to the field,
and a director of the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield. Professor Taylor
was until 2006 Professor of Leisure Management at the University of Sheffield,
where he was director of three postgraduate programmes in sports management,
leisure management, and arts and heritage management. His career has focussed
on applied research of direct relevance to the sport and leisure industry.
His recent work includes investigations for Sport England into volunteers
in sport in 1995/6 and 2002/3, construction for Sport England of performance
indicators and national benchmarks for local authority sports centres and
swimming pools in 2000 and 2002, and technical analyst for Sport England's
National Benchmarking Service since 2000. Peter Taylor is Editor-in-Chief
of the journal Managing Leisure (see url below).
