Career: Stefan Schirmer is Lecturer in the Department of Economics at
the University of the Witwatersrand. He teaches economic history and development
and has spent many years consulting on ways to alleviate poverty, overcoming
the legacies of Apartheid and promoting economic growth. His research interests
include agricultural and rural development, the history of the South African
economy, and African development. He is co-editor of the journal African Studies
(see url below).
Publications include: numerous articles on land reform, agricultural development and economic growth in numerous local and international journals
