Career: Michael Saward is Professor and Head of the Department in Politics and International Studies and Director of the Citizenship Strand in the Centre for Citizenship, Identities and Governance at The Open University (OU). He worked at Royal Holloway, University of London and joined the OU in 2000 as a Reader, and then later as Professor. His research interests focus on how key political ideas change over time, and how they are worked out in practice. He has written extensively about contemporary ideas of democracy. Michael Saward is co-editor of the journal Representation (see url below).


Publications include: Democracy: Critical Concepts in Political Sciences (four-volume collection) 2006; numerous articles in professional journals
