MATHER Charles PhD

Career: Charles Mather is Associate Professor in the School of Geography,
Archaeology and Environmental Studies at the University of the Witwatersrand,
Johannesburg, South Africa. His research and teaching interests include agri-food
restructuring, food economy, rural livelihoods and global commodity chains.
His specific focus is citrus exports after deregulation, and during 2001 and
2002 he spent his sabbatical researching aspects of the ‘re-regulation’
of this crop using a global commodity chain framework. He is also interested
in domestic commodity chains and transformations in the conditions of farm
workers in South Africa. Charles Mather is a member of the Editorial Committee
of the journal African Studies (see url below).
