Career: Thomas Mahnken is Merrill Center for Strategic Studies Visiting
Fellow and Professorial Lecturer in the Strategic Studies Program at The Johns
Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies
(SAIS), Johns Hopkins University, Washington, DC. He served as Acting Director
of the SAIS Strategic Studies Program from 2003–04 and he teaches strategy
at the US Naval War College. He has held positions in the government and the
private sector, including in the Secretary of Defense’s Office of Net
Assessment, and was an analyst for the Gulf War Air Power Survey from 1991–93.
He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the International Institute
for Strategic Studies, the Society for Military History and the US Naval Institute.
He serves as an officer in the US Naval Reserve. Thomas Mahnken is co-editor
of the Journal of Strategic Studies (see url below).
Publications include: Uncovering Ways of War: U.S. Intelligence and Foreign Military Innovation, 1918–1941 2002, The Limits of Transformation (co-author) 2003, Paradoxes of Strategic Intelligence (co-author) 2003, The Information Revolution in Military Affairs: Prospects for Asia (co-editor) 2004; numerous articles in International Security, Journal of Strategic Studies, Marine Corps Gazette and other journals
