Career: Richard Hiskes is Professor of Political Theory in the Department
of Political Sciences at the University of Connecticut. A specialist in modern
and contemporary political thought, especially as theory relates to contemporary
political and environmental issues, his most recent work is in the areas of
environmental ethics and human rights theory, and he is currently also the
Director of the Human Rights Minor. Dr Hiskes has taught courses in Democratic
Theory, Modern and Contemporary Political Thought, American Political Thought,
Women and Political theory, and Minority politics. He has conducted research
on applications of theories to sub-fields of political science, culture and
political factors affecting productivity in Britain. Richard Hiskes is Editor
of the Journal of Human Rights (see url below).
Publications include: Direct Democracy and International Politics: Deciding International Issues Through Referendums (co-author) 1992, Democracy, Risk, and Community: Technological Hazards and the Evolution of Liberalism 1998; numerous articles in professional journals
