Career: Prior to joining the Indiana State University faculty in 2000,
Michael Chambers was Assistant Professor and Instructor of Political Science
at St Olaf College in Minnesota 1996–2000 and was also Tutor in the
Paracollege from 1996–98. In addition, he taught history at Delbarton
School in Morristown, NJ from 1984–86. In 1992 he was Adjunct Lecturer
at Hunter College, City University of New York. From 1993 until 1994 he was
Teaching Fellow at the School of International and Public Affairs, Columbia
University. Since coming to Indiana State, Michael Chambers has been Assistant
Professor of Political Science from 2000 until 2005 and Associate Professor
since 2005. He has been Interim Chairman of the Department since July 2006.
Professor Chambers teaches courses in International Relations, Comparative
Politics, and Asian politics, and introductory courses to the discipline.
He has been an Associate Member of the East Asian Studies Center at Indiana
University at Bloomington since 2005 and of the Center for East Asian and
Pacific Studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign since 2006.
From 2003–04 he was Visiting Scholar at the John K. Fairbank Center
for East Asian Research at Harvard University. Professor Chambers is a specialist
in International Relations and Comparative Politics who concentrates on Asian
affairs. He has conducted field research in Beijing, Hong Kong, and Bangkok.
His research agenda emphasizes regional security issues in Asia. He has also
worked with the National Bureau of Asian Research on several research projects,
including the 2006–07 edition of Strategic Asia. Professor Chambers
served as the Managing Editor of the journal Asian Security (see url below)
for 2004–06, and currently serves as co-editor of that journal.
