Career: Heather Campbell is currently Head of Department and Leader of
the Planning Theory and Practice Research Cluster at the University of Sheffield.
She joined the staff as a Research Fellow in 1989 and was awarded a Personal
Chair in 1999. She is a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute. Professor
Campbell has been a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley
and the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. She is a member of
Sub-panel for Planning for the 2007/8 Research Assessment Exercise and the
chair for planning theory track at the 2002 and 2007 Association of European
Schools of Planning Congresses. She was the Deputy Chair of the Royal Town
Planning Institute sponsored Education Commission and is currently a member
of the Education Review group. She was invited to join the Academic Panel
for the Treasury’s Barker Review of Land Use Planning. Heather Campbell's
research focuses on public policy-making and her teaching seeks to examine
questions of ethical values and knowledge in planning, justice and judgement
and philosophy, theory and ethics in property. She also has a long standing
commitment to research training and has been awarded seven ESRC PhD studentships
as the primary supervisor and five as a secondary supervisor. Heather Campbell
is a founding co-editor of the international journal Planning Theory &
Practice (see url below).
