His expertise is in the areas of traditional Malay and modern Indonesian literature, the history of Indonesia, film in Indonesia and Malaysia, and gender and sexuality in Indonesia. Ben Murtagh is Joint Managing Editor of the journal Indonesia and the Malay World (see url below).
