Career: Aaron Karp is Instructor in Political Science in the Department
of Political Science and Geography at Old Dominion University in Norfolk,
Virginia, where he teaches international relations, American foreign policy,
technology and war, and weapons proliferation. Previous teaching posts have
been at Columbia, Rutgers and Stockholm Universities and the US Joint Forces
Staff College. He has also held research positions at the Stockholm International
Peace Research Institute, Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik, Ebenhausen, and
the Center for International Affairs at Harvard University. His early proliferation
research contributed to the creation of the 1987 Missile Technology Control
Regime. As a consultant to the United Nations, he is the author of several
reports of the UN Secretary-General. Since 1999, he is also Senior Consultant
to the Small Arms Survey, an independent institute in Geneva, Switzerland,
where he concentrates on statistical assessment of global small arms proliferation.
Aaron Karp is co-editor, with his wife Regina, of the journal Contemporary
Security Policy (see url below).
Publications include: Ballistic Missile Proliferation: The Politics and Technics 1996, Global Insurgency and the Future of Armed Conflict 2007; numerous book chapters and articles in professional journals including Arms Control Today, International Security, International Studies Quarterly, SIPRI Yearbook, Small Arms Survey, Strategic Survey, Survival, and Washington Quarterly
