Career: Angela Hull is Professor of Spatial Planning and Director of the Planning and Environmental Management Research Group in the School of the Built Environment at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. She was previously Professor of Spatial Planning and Director of the Centre for Environment and Planning at the University of the West of England. Her research interests include: spatial planning and governance, institutional triggers to sustainable urban management (transport, energy, housing), data capture and monitoring, land-based regulatory systems. Angela Hull was a local authority planner for five years and a consultant for two years. She is a member of the Foresight Intelligent Infrastructure Systems Advisory Group, External Research Assessor for the Swedish Research Council for Environment, Agricultural Sciences and Spatial Planning (FORMAS), a member of the National Lotteries Board Social Research Advisory Panel, and Chair of the AESOP Transport Thematic Group. She is co-editor of the journal Regional Studies (see url below) and a Fellow of the Academy of Learned Societies for the Social Sciences.


Publications include: Planning, Governance and Spatial Strategy in Britain: An Institutionalist Analysis (co-author) 2000, The Governance of Place: Space and Planning Processes (co-editor) 2001, AESOP Directory of Planning Schools (editor) 2001, New Principles in Planning Education (co-editor) 2008; numerous book chapters and articles in academic journals
