Career: Mats Berdal is Professor of Security and Development in the Department of War Studies at King's College London. From 2000 until 2003 he was Director of Studies at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in London. Professor Berdal is also a Visiting Professor at the National Defence and Command College, Oslo, Norway. His current research and consultancy projects include completion of his book The UN and the Search for International Order covering the immediate post-Cold War period and focusing in particular on the UN's involvement in the mitigation, containment and resolution of civil wars. He is also working on an Adelphi Paper for the IISS examining international efforts, from Bosnia to Iraq, to consolidate peace in the aftermath of war. Mats Berdal is Editor of the journal Conflict, Security & Development (see url below).
